Strip “nofollow” Tags From Urls Posted in Comments 7:33 pm

Wordpress has a feature which puts

rel='external nofollow'

in any urls that appear in comments, including the link to the posters own site. This is, of course, put there to stop spammers, but I believe somebody who’s taking the time to comment at my site should be able to benefit from it, and I doubt it will cut down much on spam anyways.

Well, I found a plugin that strips the “nofollow” from the rel tag, you can check out the plugin for yourself here: Strip “nofollow” tag from comment URLs

    You might like the fact that you’re stripping nofollow from your commenters links…and even your commenters might like it… but until this blog gets big enough to get recognized by spammers, you’ll have wished you never took it out.

    True, I was wondering that as well. At this point in time (since this is a brand new blog), I probably won’t be getting a ton of spam. But if I start getting enough, I can put the nofollows back in.

    Is there a plugin that requires registration like Jake’s and then you can comment because a spammer would have to register. Just thinking over here

    Maybe….There is an option already on WordPress that allows you to always hold a comment for moderation unless the poster had a previous comment approved, which I might start using.

    Or you could do what Gabe does… make people have to type in a number, then break the submit button. :)

    What I’ve done is enabled the ‘pre-approved’ commenters comments will go on without a hold. Otherwise, like Elliot said, they go in a moderation queue.

    There are other good options where you can have only your registered folks comment. Even more than that there are a ton of great black listed words to add into the comment filter. There’s even an option that if someone posts more than ‘x’ number of hyperlinks in the comment body, then that gets held in a queue too.

    The WP options really are endless.

    Very nice. You’re site is very helpful. I finished the 6th ball: http://www.pouloyiannis.gr/2003_10_01_itstories_archive.html , Extensive methods for this

Say Something.

I'm a nice guy, so I'll let you use basic XHTML such as <a>, <strong>, <em>, <blockquote>, and <code>. If you're trying to share some code with us, just make sure to run it through Postable first.
