What I've done is enabled the 'pre-approved' commenters comments will go on without a hold. Otherwise, like Elliot said, they go in a moderation queue.

There are other good options where you can have only your registered folks comment. Even more than that there are a ton of great black listed words to add into the comment filter. There's even an option that if someone posts more than 'x' number of hyperlinks in the comment body, then that gets held in a queue too.

The WP options really are endless.

Or you could do what Gabe does... make people have to type in a number, then break the submit button. :)

Maybe....There is an option already on WordPress that allows you to always hold a comment for moderation unless the poster had a previous comment approved, which I might start using.

Is there a plugin that requires registration like Jake's and then you can comment because a spammer would have to register. Just thinking over here

True, I was wondering that as well. At this point in time (since this is a brand new blog), I probably won't be getting a ton of spam. But if I start getting enough, I can put the nofollows back in.

You might like the fact that you're stripping nofollow from your commenters links...and even your commenters might like it... but until this blog gets big enough to get recognized by spammers, you'll have wished you never took it out.
