SitePoint Mayhem Contest 9:06 pm

It looks like my entry in the SitePoint Mayhem Contest has been chosen as one of the four winners. I had a lot of fun and actually ended up learning some as well.

While I had a wonderful time creating mayhem in IE, Opera, and Safari; it’s also amazing how much fun it is to be able to design without having to worry about the hassles of IE, and while coding my entry I couldn’t help but wonder if developers will ever be able to accept this as a norm. With IE7 just around the corner, it does look promising. However, it’s probably bound to be one of those things that’s just “too good to be true.” There has to be something that will prevent so many developers’ dreams from becoming reality.

Apparently as a prize I’ll be getting a copy of Firefox Secrets in the mail, which looks like an interesting read. As such a devout FireFox user (heck, I’ve even got my own t-shirt), it just wouldn’t be tolerable for me not to read this.

Make sure to go check out the other entries as well, some of them are quite good.

Way to go man. You used the ‘ol browser detection. It almost made it too easy didn’t ;) Good luck man. You have my vote. I had nothing to win since I have all the books, lol.

Congrats! I feel like a proud mama… ok… maybe not

  • Elliot Swan October 5th, 2005 @ 8:18 am (#)

    @Ellyadmirer: hah, never.

@Dustin: It would’ve been too easy, if I had known what I was doing with the JavaScript. ;) I did find a pretty good tutorial for browser detection, but it’s amazing the problems I came up with…

@Everybody: Thanks. They said the book should be arriving within 5 business days. :)

  • Dustin Diaz October 11th, 2005 @ 12:53 pm (#)

So, did you win? or are they just picking the top 5 and sending ya’ll books.

  • Elliot Swan October 11th, 2005 @ 12:59 pm (#)

    This is all they said:

Since judging was so hard we decided to give away 4 prizes! Egor, sbob, elliothere, and mPeror all win! I’ll be PMing details to you guys so you can claim your prizes

I don’t have a clue what went on behind the curtains, all I know is they said I was one of the four and got a PM saying that I “won the cross browser mayhem competition” with instructions on how to get the book (which should be here tomorrow).

  • Elliot Swan October 12th, 2005 @ 5:33 pm (#)

Got the book. :) I’m liking it so far, that CD that came with it has a few nice extentions on it as well.

  • Medeea November 1st, 2005 @ 2:04 pm (#)

[...] I remember when I was doing the SitePoint Mayhem Contest how amazed I was at the easiness of CSS when you only have to worry about one browser. It was like some sort of dream…But then at the same time, if it was always that easy many of us would be out of a job. [...]

Say Something.

I'm a nice guy, so I'll let you use basic XHTML such as <a>, <strong>, <em>, <blockquote>, and <code>. If you're trying to share some code with us, just make sure to run it through Postable first.
