No Widget for Yahoo! Music Engine? 6:01 pm

We all know that Yahoo! bought Konfabulator.

But what kind of company buys a widget program around the same time as the release of a their big music engine and doesn’t release any widgets for it? It’s been how long now?

I saw on a Yahoo! Group that somebody was building one, but don’t you think Yahoo! should pull out with their own? Or at the very least somebody would’ve developed a good Yahoo! Music widget by now?

I’ve been using the Winamp widget, and it’s actually really nice. But what if I don’t want to use Winamp, or I want to be able to listen to Yahoo! subscription music? The Music Engine is actually pretty nice, but I’d want to be able to control it with a widget. I’d actually be quite satisfied with something just like the Winamp widget only working with the Y! Music Engine (or even better, a universal player).

But so far, nobody’s done this? How can it be? Come on, people.

OK…. I just had to get that out of my system. I’m finished ranting now.

Did you know Y! actually went on a campaign to see who could develop the best widget for Yahoo! music? I’m not sure what came of it, but I thought we were on top of this?

Oh cool…Perhaps there is hope for my situation then. :)

I would’ve thought it would be out by now though…

I’ve actually been a bit hesitated to download Konfabulator — afraid that it’ll be something like the Stardocks products, taking up 200% of the memory. I just downloaded now and it looks great!

I’m not too familiar with the Yahoo Unlimited Music service. Does it require a special program to use? I guess to keep music from being downloaded and used elsewhere, a special streaming program would have to be used.

@Oliver: Yeah, Yahoo! Unlimited is a lot like Rhapsody or Napster, and it runs on the Yahoo Music Engine

You might want to try the MinAmp widget for controlling Winamp. Lets you do the important things (play, pause, next, previous, quit) and allows you to drag-and-drop files to enqueue in Winamp. Its skinnable with 4 color schemes.

Say Something.
