New Loves 7:53 pm
As I’ve been designing and developing my reboot, I’ve fallen in love with a few new things. Allow me to introduce them to you:
- mIcons. The Schwarze Buttons 1 are absolutely gorgeous. By the way, can anybody tell me what “Schwarze” means?
- Prototype. I absolutely love JavaScript now, and Prototype has made my JavaScript scripting so much more fun. Thanks to Snook’s disection and these Prototype developer notes, finding new things to do with it couldn’t be easier.
- Script.aculo.us. The effects.js file in there has some wonderful effects, and they’re so easy to implement it’s like a dream. Maybe it is a dream…But if it is, please, don’t wake me up. It’s far too much fun this way.
- Notepad++. I used to be one of those Notepad for life! guys, but that was before I tried out this thing. I don’t know how I ever lived without it. Tabs, syntax highlighting for tons of different languages, indent guides, line numbering…ah. Trust me kids, the original notepad isn’t that great–Wake up and smell the fresh air.
- WordPress. Now, I’ve loved this thing for a long time. But since I’ve been actually developing themes on it, I’ve come to fully appreciate their PHP-based templating system. Absolutely awesome.
If you haven’t already checked out any of these, get to it.
Right now.
I eat food. I listen to music. I sleep. Sometimes. I drink lots of coffee. I make pretty pictures. I talk to people. I believe in things. I write stuff. I take photographs. I have a laughing addiction. I am human.
Hi Elliot, thanks for the laud. “Schwarz” means black.

“Schwarze” means black in German. So all it says is “Black Buttons 1.”

Ah, that makes sense.

Nice. I too have had a recent love for Notepad ++ , still a few things to figure out with it, but IMHO its better than DreamWeaver. I can’t wait to get my hands dirty with prototype, Script.aculo.us, or CakePHP till then I can drool over everyone elses masterpieces.

Careful as we say… beware of frameworks. I would recommend learning the DOM well enough before dissecting prototype.
See the Gecko DOM reference http://www.mozilla.org/docs/dom/domref/dom_shortIX.html
Play around with the language and see if you can make something first without the help of a framework. That is, of course, if you’re going to be in this for the long run. Otherwise if you’re retiring next year, go nuts!

Good advice Dustin. Of course like I said I can’t wait to get my hands dirty with them. But on my list the actual learning of PHP is first. Till then… xhtml/css is my thing.

@Dustin: Actually, I have been playing around with the DOM as well and I’m almost done with a little object I’ve been working on these past two days. I’ll make sure to post it here when it’s done (hopefully tonight).

Yum… Prototype. I love the way that it makes AJAX so simple…

Two new studies show why some people are more attractive for members of the opposite sex than others.
The University of Florida, Florida State University found that physically attractive people almost instantly attract the attention of the interlocutor, sobesednitsy with them, literally, it is difficult to make eye. This conclusion was reached by a series of psychological experiments, which were determined by the people who believe in sending the first seconds after the acquaintance. Here, a curious feature: single, unmarried experimental preferred to look at the guys, beauty opposite sex, and family, people most often by representatives of their sex.
The authors believe that this feature developed a behavior as a result of the evolution: a man trying to find a decent pair to acquire offspring. If this is resolved, he wondered potential rivals. Detailed information about this magazine will be published Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
In turn, a joint study of the Rockefeller University, Rockefeller University and Duke University, Duke University in North Carolina revealed that women are perceived differently by men smell. During experiments studied the perception of women one of the ingredients of male pheromone-androstenona smell, which is contained in urine or sweat.
The results were startling: women are part of this repugnant odor, and the other part is very attractive, resembling the smell of vanilla, and the third group have not felt any smell. The authors argue that the reason is that the differences in the receptor responsible for the olfactory system, from different people are different.
It has long been proven that mammals (including human) odor is one way of attracting the attention of representatives of the opposite sex. A detailed article about the journal Nature will publish.
